Wicomico County Tourism, also known as the Wicomico County Convention & Visitors Bureau, is completely funded by the County’s hotel room tax. There are no County tax dollars appropriated to the Tourism Office. Every rental of a Wicomico County, Maryland hotel room generates a 6% room tax for each night of stay. Tourism receives 4% of that tax.

Wicomico County Tourism’s success is measured by the number of hotel room nights that are booked as a result of our efforts to attract visitors to Wicomico County. These room nights represent business conventions, trade shows, sporting events, special events and conferences. Participants of these events funnel revenue into the community and increase the tax revenue to the county by not only staying in our hotels, but also eating in our restaurants, shopping in our stores or enjoying some of our many attractions. The economic impact for these events is calculated by factoring $397 in impact for each hotel room rented in the County. This is based on a double room occupancy, three meals, gasoline, and shopping.

The most important goal of Wicomico County Tourism is to bring events to the County that will help the local business owners and the hotels. Wicomico County Tourism is an engine, constantly working to generate new revenue for the Wicomico County.
