Looking for outdoor adventure in Maryland's Wicomico County? Visit Pirate's Wharf - Wicomico County's newest park, located about 20 minutes west of Salisbury.
We don't know exactly how Pirate's Wharf got its name. While there are no recorded accounts of piracy at the property, pirates commonly traveled around the Chesapeake Bay during 17th and 18th centuries. The name might come from oyster pirates who poached oysters on the Eastern Shore. Another theory is tied to bootleggers who transported alcohol along the coast in the 1920s.
Today, Pirate's Wharf provides a variety of recreational opportunities and a glimpse into the area's historic past.
The park's 2.1-mile loop through wooded and open areas are highlighted by views of the Wicomico River. Interpretive signs provide historical and environmental information about both the property and the Eastern Shore.
Estimated walking time for the 2.1-mile loop is 40 minutes. If you're short on time, we recommend the section of trail that runs parallel to the Wicomico River. Click here to view a trail map.
Additional park amenities include a woodland-themed playground and a large pavilion.
Future plans for the park include a boat ramp, soft launch, fishing pier and viewing areas.
