I went to my first tea time. Here's what it was like

Have you ever been to a Victorian tea? I hadn't, until last month, when I attended a tea at the Gillis Grier Bed & Breakfastand really enjoyed it. Hostess Charleen Burik was friendly and welcoming.

Tea time at the Gillis Grier gives attendees a chance to try teas they may not otherwise get a chance to taste. I don't drink tea often, but I really enjoyed the ones that were served at this tea time, which were hibiscus rose, black raspberry and peach-flavored.

The tea time included plenty of homemade food, from the traditional cucumber sandwiches to various other types of small sandwiches and desserts. One unique offering was a lavender cupcake. Attendees can also wear hats to get the full experience.

If you're like me and are a tea newbie, travel writer Annick Lenoir-Peek (who also attended her first tea with me) breaks it all down in an easy-to-understand way on her website, The Common Traveler. Read more here and have your questions answered.

The Gillis Grier Bed & Breakfast hosts tea time each month and also offers private teas for four to eight people. Tea times are for those ages 12 and older. Learn more and book your tea time here.
